Cat Scratch Fever
2:28 PM
Last week we proudly announced the arrival of another member of our family. No, not Baby Hunter (he won't be here until March), but our gray and white feline son Bibble the Cat. Let me preface this by saying that Dave and I ARE NOT CAT PEOPLE. We have three dogs, and never planned on adding to "the zoo." But when this little guy showed up on our doorstep we just couldn't turn him away. Ady has stepped up and become his official caretaker, and feeds and waters him daily (along with carting him around the house in her baby doll sling). He is teaching Cade some important lessons in gentleness, which is still a work in progress.
Bibble has been a joy to have in our home over the past week, but I must admit, he has one TERRIBLE problem: his claws. This is an issue no scratching post can fix. He is still too young to have them removed, and is puncturing more holes in our beautiful brown leather furniture each day. Just as Dave was ready to pull out the pistol (no seriously), we (ok, he) came across these: www.softpaws.com. The SPCA uses them in lieu of declawing, and people in the cat world swear by them. They are adhesive plastic claw covers that prevent scratching and puncturing. AMEN! We (of course) opted for the orange ones before finding out that that wasn't a choice in kitten sizes, so our pastel blue Softpaws will be arriving in the mail in about 5 days! Can you just imagine us trying to apply these covers to our little guy? Wish us luck that these will do the trick (or at least get us through a couple more weeks until he's a little older)! We'll keep you posted (no pun intended)!
