You are TEN. Our Cinco de Mayo baby is TEN! I blinked and you went from this teeny tiny baby to a half grown woman. Did you know the first night you were born, you cried and cried? Your dad and I thought you were broken. We couldn’t figure out what was wrong. The nurse came rushing in to help us, and as it turns out babies like things a certain way. They like to be held, fed, kept warm, and to be swaddled. What? SWADDLED? Seriously? We had no idea what the fuss was all about, but we learned quickly. That’s babies having babies right there. I’d like to think the rest of our road wasn’t quite so rocky, but the truth is we still usually have no idea what we are doing.
The three of us have done a lot of growing up together. We have watched that teeny tiny baby grow into a beautiful fourth grader that loves to cook, read, create, and ride her ponies. Man, am I thankful for those ponies during this tumultuous year. Those ponies have been your refuge and taught you lessons when I have fallen short. You are compassionate, strong, and resilient. Seeing you fearlessly and gracefully jump those majestic creatures makes me quite certain you have super powers.
Speaking of super powers, your daddy, he has them too. He speaks your language fluently. He has filled in so many gaps of discipline, affection, communication, and time. He may not know what he’s doing either, but totally has me fooled. You are his number one girl and seeing you two together makes my heart happy.
Although, I know you don’t feel like it, those brothers of yours adore you too. Holden’s day is ruined if you don’t tell him goodbye when you leave for school. Cade and Hunter could not function without your direction, help, and CUPCAKES!!! You are quite the baker by the way. I love seeing your creativity in the kitchen, and being the recipient of your delicious confections.
Ady Belle, I am excited for what this year of life brings for you. You have brought joy to my heart all the 3,650 days of your life, and I am so very lucky to be your Mama.
